Sometime in the last 6 months (so yes, there have been plenty of updates since I last knew it worked) Windows Server Media Streaming Service has ceased functioning on my Windows Server 2012 Essentials box (NOT R2). When I attempt to start it from Services it says 'Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion' Following attempts to start the service the System event log has an Event ID 7003 entry which says, 'The Windows Server Media Streaming Service service depends on the following service: WMPNetworkSvc. This service might not be installed.'

And indeed the Services list does not include 'Windows Server Media Streaming Service'. I have been unable to determine how to install/re-install Windows Server Media Streaming Service, which is the obvious next step. I have run DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth but that didn't make a difference. I've looked for Features to install. I'd like to get the service working again but I'm stumped. I've found articles about installing on R2 (not my version or issue) and about disabling and uninstalling (again, not my issue) but I've been unable to find any solutions to this. Help and suggestions sought!

The “wmpnetwk.exe” is the key executable for the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and it is. The Media Player Sharing Service rubbish loaded. Event ID: 14332 Source. Event ID/Source search. Example: Windows cannot unload your registry file EvLog Event Log Analyzer.

Hi, According to your description, my understanding is that it failed to start Windows Server Media Streaming Service on Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Media Stream is a built-in function on Windows Server 2012 Essentials. You had mentioned that it failed to manually start the Windows Server Essentials Media Streaming Service. Please check the service properties and make sure that it is configured to use below account: Local System >The Windows Server Media Streaming Service service depends on the following service: WMPNetworkSvc. This service might not be installed.

Please check to see if you can find below service and try to manually start-re-start it: Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Best Regards, Eve Wang Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help. If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact. Sorry for the slow response. Windows Server Media Streaming Services is configured to logon as. MediaAdmin$ not Local System.

I can change the logon to Local System though I am reluctant to do so because, as noted in my original post, there is no 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service' to start, either manually or automatically (in the services window, the alphabetized list of services goes from 'Windows Management Instrumentation' to 'Window Modules Installer').
